United in Faith, Love, and Service
Green Cross Calvary Lutheran Church was established April 22, 1923 in Rio Linda, California, a suburb just north of Sacramento. We serve the communities of Rio Linda and Elverta as well as many communities in the greater Sacramento Area. Pastor Ron Zielske is serving as Interim Pastor.

Our Mission

We believe that through the Holy Spirit God calls us to faith and makes us the church.

We see our mission as reaching out in Christ's love to both members and non-churched people through:

Worship: United in faith and hope, praising Father, Son and Holy Spirit, God's people gather strength from the Good News of Christ in Word and Sacrament.

Ministry in daily life: Rooted in God's grace, God's people help each other live according to God's commandments, trying to be signs of Christ's welcome and love in our homes, neighborhoods, work, schools, community, and the world.

Daily Devotions

Prayer Life of Calvary

How fortunate we are to know we can call on God and know He hears us. We at Calvary have abundant places and times to pray. Here are a few ways:

Personally

Make a time for talking and listening to God. It should be a definite time and place where you can be alone.

Corporate

When the prayers are read in church, listen, and ask God to answer. Hear the names of the people and ask for answers to their needs.

Prayer Chain

These requests go the great number of people who have volunteered to pray. You may call the church office to get your prayer heard.

Prayer Table

Light a candle and pray for your desires. It can be in sickness, in sorrow, someone having a bad time, or a prayer of Thanksgiving for an answered prayer.

Prayer Book

This book will be on the stand before and after church. Take time to add your heart's wishes. The Prayer Team will receive the requests and will pray for them during the week. If you want them on the Prayer Chain call the Church Office as they will not be added unless you want them to be.

Thanks can also be a prayer topic for prayers.

Prayer Team

The Prayer Team members to do not meet but use the requests for prayers in their daily devotions. After the requests are copied into their own book, they are shredded so you can rely on privacy. Could you be a member? Yes! It is easy. Just call 991-3286 (Vi) and she will be glad to make you acquainted with the procedure.

We are interested in ones interested in taking turns with the Prayer Book and to give help when needed on Sunday morning.
"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." Matthew 18:19

Our online devotion on Luther's Small Catechism.

A number of scriptural prayer resources have been gathered together for your reference and private study.

A Liturgy of the Hours is also available online. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required for reading.

Another resource is called Sacred Space. It guides you through a 5-10 minute prayer session, in six steps (things like 'Coming into the Presence of God' and preparatory exercises) and centers on a short scripture passage chosen for the day (so it's a little different every day). The Irish Jesuits have produced it to help computer users to get into a habit of daily prayer.

The Moravian Church offers a simple daily text for individual or family devotion.

For your own prayer request, contact our church office, or visit www.prayingchurch.org, the ELCA's prayer web site.
