Calvary Lutheran Church was established April 22, 1923 in Rio Linda, California, a suburb just north of Sacramento. We serve the communities of Rio Linda and Elverta as well as many communities in the greater Sacramento Area. Pastor Bruce Johnson is serving as Interim Pastor. |
Our MissionWe see our mission as reaching out in Christ's love to both members and non-churched people through: Worship: United in faith and hope, praising Father, Son and Holy Spirit, God's people gather strength from the Good News of Christ in Word and Sacrament. Ministry in daily life: Rooted in God's grace, God's people help each other live according to God's commandments, trying to be signs of Christ's welcome and love in our homes, neighborhoods, work, schools, community, and the world. |

How fortunate we are to know we can call on God and know He hears us. We at Calvary have abundant places and times to pray. Here are a few ways:
"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." Matthew 18:19

Our online devotion on Luther's Small Catechism. Daily psalms, readings and days of commemoration are offered by Calvary through the Sacramento Conference 8 web site. A one page summary reading (suitable for printing and posting) is also available for April and May. A number of scriptural prayer resources have been gathered together for your reference and private study. A Liturgy of the Hours is also available online. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required for reading. Another resource is called Sacred Space. It guides you through a 5-10 minute prayer session, in six steps (things like 'Coming into the Presence of God' and preparatory exercises) and centers on a short scripture passage chosen for the day (so it's a little different every day). The Irish Jesuits have produced it to help computer users to get into a habit of daily prayer. The Moravian Church offers a simple daily text for individual or family devotion. For your own prayer request, contact our church office, or visit www.prayingchurch.org, the ELCA's prayer web site. |
Ongoing -- There is always a desperate need for blood in the Sacramento area. Calvary Lutheran has established a "Donor Club" for congregational members. Please consider donating blood regularly to Calvary's club #1399. Contact BloodSource at (916) 456-1500 or (800) 995-4420 to make an appointment at one of their local donation centers.
